Advanced Diploma in Professional Chinese Teaching

 

Objectives

The course is meant to enhance students’ knowledge of Chinese language and literature so that they are more competent at delivering Chinese language classes. Participants will be equipped with practical communicative skills which they can make use of when relating with pupils, colleagues and parents. Lessons provided are a means to keeping oneself updated of the latest developments of Chinese pedagogy in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Course outline

There are 15 modules in total. The modules are:

  •    *  Standard Mandarin-D
  •    *  Introduction to Professional Chinese Teaching-D
  •    *  Psychology in Professional Chinese Teaching-D
  •    *  Pedagogy in Professional Chinese Teaching-D
  •    *  Methodology of Teaching Vocabulary-D
  •    *  Methodology of Teaching Reading and Comprehension-D
  •    *  Methodology of Teaching Composition Writing-D
  •    *  Utilization of Teaching Aids-D
  •    *  Introduction to Linguistics-AD
  •    *  Methodology of Teaching Oral Chinese-AD
  •    *  Classroom Management Skills for Professional Chinese Teaching-AD
  •    *  Selection and Design of Teaching Materials for Professional Chinese Teaching-AD
  •    *  Contemporary Chinese Literature – AD
  •    *  Development and Design of Teaching Plan-AD


Course Certification

Upon completion of each module, a Certificate of Distinction/ Merit/ Attendance will be awarded based on their grades of the modular assessments.

Upon completion of the 15 modules, Advanced Diploma in Professional Chinese Teaching will be awarded.

Pre-requisites

  •    *  Applicants must be at least 15 years or above AND fulfill the following requirements
    Academic Level:
  •    *  9 years and above of formal education (middle school/secondary school and above)
  •    *  Pass in SCI Entry Test
    Language Proficiency:
  •    *  9 years of studying in a Chinese School OR
  •    *  C and above in O-Level Chinese OR
  •    *  Pass in SCI Language Proficiency Test
 

Lesson Time

Course will be completed in 15 months. There will be 25 hours of lesson time each week. Schedule of the classes will be planned to suit the course’s needs.

Course Synopses

There are 15 modules in total. The modules are:

  •    *  Contemporary Chinese-D: Systematic learning of language studies knowledge, focus on contemporary language usage and practical combination with professional Chinese teaching.
     
  •    *  Standard Mandarin-D: Train students’ pronunciation, need to speak mandarin clearly and fluently
     
  •    *  Introduction to Professional Chinese Teaching-D: Build up students’ ability to grasp professional chinese teaching laws and teaching techniques.
     
  •    *  Psychology in Professional Chinese Teaching-D: From both teaching and learning Chinese as a foreign language’s psychological activity, psychological process and psychological laws.
  •    *  Pedagogy in Professional Chinese Teaching-D: Grasp professional Chinese teaching methods and skills, and effectively carry out teaching.
     
  •    *  Methodology of Teaching Vocabulary-D: Grasp professional chinese teaching vocabulary objectives, methods and principles and effectively carry out teaching.
  •    *  Methodology of Teaching Reading and Comprehension-D: Grasp professional Chinese teaching reading objectives, methods and principles and effectively carry out teaching.
  •    *  Methodology of Teaching Composition Writing-D: Grasp professional Chinese teaching composition objectives, methods and principles and effectively carry out teaching.
     
  •    *  Utilization of Teaching Aids-D: Grasp how to create multimedia teaching aids and effectively use in teaching to improve teaching effectiveness.
     
  •    *  Introduction to Linguistics-AD: Understand and grasp the nature, structure and developmental laws of language and language research, and gain rational knowledge of the language.
  •    *  Methodology of Teaching Oral Chinese-AD: Build up and grasp how to train students’ abilities on practical use of Chinese for conversation, the focus of the teaching method will be conversational in nature.
  •    *  Classroom Management Skills for Professional Chinese Teaching-AD: The usage of methods and class management skills by teachers to help students to understand and learn Chinese and effectively carry out teaching.
  •    *  Selection and Design of Teaching Materials for Professional Chinese Teaching-AD: Understand the theory of professional Chinese teaching course material development history and able to design suitable course contents for students.
  •    *  Contemporary Chinese Literature – AD: Understand the various literary campaigns, ideas, creations of contemporary chinese literature and deeply experience contemporary chinese literature ideology and culture.
  •    *  Development and Design of Teaching Plan-AD: Grasp the technique of designing teaching plan, to sufficiently and completely teach the content during the lesson
