Overview of Education System in Singapore

Singapore’s Education System is a well developed one, recognized internationally and has been well received by many all over the world. Polytechnics

Singapore has 5 polytechnics and various specialized subjects for one to study in.

  • Singapore Polytechnic
  • Temasek Polytechnic
  • Ngee Ann Polytechnic
  • Nanyang Polytechnic
  • Republic Polytechnic

 

 

Enrolment to Polytechnics in Singapore for foreign students

  • Local students must have graduated from Secondary Four and taken the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination before they can be admitted to a polytechnic.
  • For foreign students, there are 2 methods:
    (i) To take the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination in Singapore before applying for polytechnics with the results.
    (ii) Make use of the student’s own country’s high school results to apply for polytechnics through Direct Admission Exercise. If found suitable, the student will be granted a chance to take the school’s entrance test. (However, the number of available vacancies for students to enroll by this method is very limited.)
  • Foreign students who study in Singapore polytechnics and universities under a government grant will be granted Permanent Resident (PR) status and have to work in Singapore under a bond of 3—5 years.
  • After completing the polytechnic course, student will be able to obtain a diploma.

Requirements

To apply for education in Polytechnics in Singapore, students must be above 16 years old and have at least completed their Secondary school education. They would be highly advised to attend the “Preparatory Course for GCE ‘O’ Level Examination” offered by SCI. This is to get them fully equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to pass the placement test required by the Polytechnics or to do well in the GCE ‘O’ Level examination. Upon passing the test, admission will be granted.
