English Course(General)

 

Objectives 

This is a programme designed to develop students' proficiency in English language which helps to build the students' foundation in listening, speaking, reading and writing for general purposes. It also aims to train students’ grammar and vocabulary skills. The course places much emphasis on improving the ability of the learners to use English for daily communication and on the basis of that, the course will lay a solid foundation for further studies of the language. It aims to help the students gain confidence and competency in using English. Students are able to proceed from level 1 up to level 6 to improve their reading and writing ability.


Course Outline 

  • Identify and correct a limited set of grammar errors in written texts
  • Understand and use basic grammar correctly (prepositions, past/present tense, active and passive sentences, future tenses and continuous tenses)
  • Improved academic and low-frequency vocabulary
  • Write coherent paragraphs and short essays on various topics
  • To read with greater understanding and improve listening and speaking ability


Lesson Time 

Each level consists of 16 lessons of 1.5 hours or
8 lessons of 3 hours
- Each level will take 2 months to complete
- Preferred schedule can be discussed further

Requirements 

For students enrolling into elementary General English at level 1, there is no requirement. However, for students who wish to join Level 2 or above General English Course, there is a need to sit for a placement test/interview to assess your English proficiency.


Course Materials 

Course Materials and Textbooks are compulsory and at a minimal fee. Material fees are subjected to change depending on the level.


Course Certification 

Students can receive a certificate by SCI upon completion of the course. Whether or not to take an examination at the end of the course is optional.
