Objectives China's Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, known as HSK or the Chinese Proficiency Test is a standardized test at the state level designed and developed by the HSK Center of Beijing Language and Culture University to assess the Chinese proficiency of non-native speakers (foreigners, overseas Chinese and students of Chinese national minorities). HSK consists of the basic Chinese proficiency test (HSK Basic), the elementary and intermediate Chinese proficiency test (HSK Elementary-Intermediate) and the advanced Chinese proficiency test (HSK Advanced). The exam is suitable for persons wanting to enroll in PRC educational institutions, work in PRC, assess their own level of Mandarin proficiency, or prepare to live in Mandarin-speaking environments. The course is specially designed to prepare students for this examination so that they are equipped with the skills to tackle the examination questions. Students are also able to move from the basic to intermediate and then on to the advance categories in HSK. At the end of the course, students will be expected to be able to listen and communicate fluently in Mandarin, read and write around 3000 Chinese characters and Chinese texts of relatively long length and have the confidence to sit for the HSK Examinations.
