Can Foreigners Attend Local Schools in Singapore?

International students can seek admission to mainstream primary and secondary schools through the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) or Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students (S-AEIS). AEIS and S-AEIS are admission tests conducted by Singapore’s Ministry Of Education (MOE).

  • AEIS happens in September each year.
  • S-AEIS happens in March each year. Students who missed or did not pass the AEIS exam in September can sit for the S-AEIS exam.

If You Didn't Manage to Pass the AEIS or S-AEIS Exam...

Don’t worry! We can always try again in the next AEIS (September) or S-AEIS (March) Exam.

Is it Difficult to Get a Place at a Singapore Local School?

The AEIS exam is highly competitive, especially for English. Many students find it challenging due to the high standards of Singapore’s education system. Proper preparation and structured training are strongly recommended. Although there are limited slots available each year, enrolling in government schools is not a “mission impossible”. For over 20 years, Spring College International’s AEIS Preparatory Course and AEIS Tuition Course have helped countless students in successfully securing placements in local schools.

Our students are from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, India and all around the world. They have successfully passed the AEIS and S-AEIS examinations, and enrolled in Singapore government primary and secondary schools. Check out our students’ AEIS offer letter from MOE:

What subjects are tested in AEIS?

English and Mathematics. Both subjects are designed to assess a student’s ability to cope with the Singapore school curriculum.

Preparation time varies depending on the student’s current level. Most students require 6 months of structured preparation to build the necessary English and Mathematics skills.

Can I choose which government school to attend after passing AEIS?
