Frequently Asked Questions
Which level should I start with — Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Higher Diploma?
Start with Diploma if you’re new to hospitality and tourism. Enter at Advanced Diploma if you already hold a Diploma or have completed 12 years of formal education. Start at Higher Diploma if you have an Advanced Diploma, Grade 12 certificate, or are a mature candidate with 8+ years of relevant experience. Our admissions team can confirm the right starting point for you.
What's the difference between full-time and part-time study?
Both lead to the same qualification. Full-time runs 15 hours per week with a 6-month industrial attachment included (for Diploma and Advanced Diploma). Part-time is 6 hours per week of evening or weekend classes — designed for working professionals, and typically without the industrial attachment.
Is the industrial attachment guaranteed? What if I can't find a placement?
Industrial attachment is compulsory for full-time Diploma or Advanced Diploma programmes, and our team supports students in identifying suitable placements. If you cannot complete it due to a valid reason (e.g. no Training Work Pass, medical reasons), you can complete a project work module instead.
Can international students join on a Student Pass?
Yes. As an EduTrust-certified PEI, SCI sponsors Student Pass applications for international students enrolled in our full-time courses. Our admissions team handles the full process with ICA, which typically takes 4 weeks. Part-time programmes are not eligible for Student Pass sponsorship.
What if I want to progress to a university degree?
Our Higher Diploma is designed to support progression to bachelor’s degree programmes. Graduates can apply for top-up degrees (typically Year 3 entry) at selected local private universities and overseas universities. Our pathway consulting team can advise on suitable options.
Can I work part-time while studying?
This depends on your visa status. Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents can work without restriction. Student Pass holders enrolled in full-time programmes at Private Education Institutions like SCI are not permitted to work while studying. Part-time programme students are typically already employed and not on a Student Pass.
What hospitality and tourism employers do your students work with?
Our students have built careers across Singapore’s hospitality and tourism sector — international hotel chains, integrated resorts, restaurants, travel agencies, MICE event organisers, tourism attractions, and aviation/cruise companies. Industrial attachments can lead directly to employment with the host organisation after graduation.
What if my English isn't strong, will I be able to follow the lessons?
A common concern, and one we’ve solved. All students with English proficiency concerns are enrolled in our IELTS English classes alongside their Diploma classes at no extra cost. This means you can build your English skills in parallel with your hospitality and tourism studies, rather than delaying enrolment until your English improves.
