Diploma

Advanced Diploma

The full-time Diploma in Professional Chinese Teaching provides a comprehensive foundation in Chinese teaching methodology and pedagogy. The programme equips you with both subject matter expertise and the practical teaching skills needed to start your career as a Chinese language teacher.

The same Diploma qualification as the full-time programme, structured around evening or weekend classes for working professionals. The qualification awarded is identical; only the schedule differs. Ideal for current Chinese teachers, tuition centre instructors, or those working in education-adjacent roles who want to formalise their teaching qualifications alongside their current work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which level should I start with — Diploma or Advanced Diploma?
Start with Diploma if you have at least 10 years of formal education and are new to logistics and operations. Enter at Advanced Diploma if you already hold a Diploma (from SCI or elsewhere) or have completed 12 years of formal education. Our admissions team can confirm the right starting point.
What's the difference between full-time and part-time study?
Both modes lead to the same qualification. Full-time runs 15 hours per week. Part-time is 6 hours per week of evening or weekend classes — designed for working professionals.
Can international students join on a Student Pass?
Yes. As an EduTrust-certified PEI, SCI sponsors Student Pass applications for international students enrolled in our full-time courses. Our admissions team handles the full process with ICA, which typically takes 4 weeks. Part-time programmes are not eligible for Student Pass sponsorship.
How long does it take to complete both levels?
Roughly 24 months back-to-back if studied full-time (9 months Diploma + 15 months Advanced Diploma).
What if I want to progress to a university degree?
Graduates of our Advanced Diploma can apply for bachelor’s degree top-up programmes (typically Year 3 entry) at selected local private universities and overseas universities. Our pathway consulting team can advise on suitable options.
What employers do your graduates work with?
Our graduates work across Singapore’s diverse Chinese teaching landscape — kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, Chinese language centres, tuition centres, international schools with Chinese programmes, and adult learning institutions. Some graduates also pursue private tutoring or freelance Chinese teaching, while others move into curriculum development or teaching materials design.
Do I need to be a native Chinese speaker to take this course?
You need solid Chinese language proficiency — equivalent to at least 9 years of study in a Chinese school or C6 in GCE ‘O’-Level Chinese (or pass SCI’s language proficiency test). The course is taught in Chinese and assumes students are already capable Chinese language users. The focus is on teaching methodology and pedagogy — not on improving your own Chinese.
