Diploma in Professional Chinese Teaching
Objectives
This course allows students to master the Professional Chinese Teaching skills, and also allows them to become an outstanding Chinese teacher through international standard training courses. This course also equips students with the ability to impart Chinese knowledge efficiently using the latest Chinese teaching theory.
Course Outline
There are 9 modules in total. The modules are:
Contemporary Chinese : Systematic learning of language studies knowledge, focus on contemporary language usage and practical combination with professional Chinese teaching.
Standard Mandarin : Train students’ pronunciation, need to speak mandarin clearly and fluently
Introduction to Professional Chinese Teaching : Build up students’ ability to grasp professional Chinese teaching laws and teaching techniques.
Psychology in Professional Chinese Teaching : From both teaching and learning Chinese as a foreign language’s psychological activity, psychological process and psychological laws.
Pedagogy in Professional Chinese Teaching : Grasp professional Chinese teaching methods and skills, and effectively carry out teaching.
Methodology of Teaching Vocabulary : Grasp professional Chinese teaching vocabulary objectives, methods and principles and effectively carry out teaching.
Methodology of Teaching Reading and Comprehension : Grasp professional Chinese teaching reading objectives, methods and principles and effectively carry out teaching.
Methodology of Teaching Composition Writing : Grasp professional Chinese teaching composition objectives, methods and principles and effectively carry out teaching.
Utilization of Teaching Aids : Grasp how to create multimedia teaching aids and effectively use in teaching to improve teaching effectiveness.
Pre-requisites
Applicants must be at least 15 years old or above AND fulfil the following requirements
Academic Level: 9 years and above of formal education (middle school/secondary school and above) and Pass in SCI Entry Test
Language Proficiency: 9 years of studying in a Chinese School OR grade C and above in GCE ‘O’ Level Chinese OR Pass SCI Language Proficiency Test
Course Duration
Course will be completed in 12 months. There will be 6 hours of lesson time each week. Schedule of the classes will be planned to suit the course’s needs.
Course Certification
Upon completion of the 9 modules, those who fulfill the required attendance and pass all the assessments will be awarded a Diploma in Professional Chinese Teaching certificate by SCI.

This course is for students who aspire to become qualified Chinese language teachers, and current Chinese language teachers who would like to upgrade themselves and obtain higher qualifications. This course also aims to enhance students’ knowledge of Chinese language and literature so that they are more competent in delivering Chinese language classes.

Classroom Management Skills for Professional Chinese Teaching : The usage of methods and class management skills by teachers to help students to understand and learn Chinese and effectively carry out teaching.
Selection and Design of Teaching Materials for Professional Chinese Teaching : Understand the theory of professional Chinese teaching course material development history and able to design suitable course contents for students.
Contemporary Chinese Literature : Understand the various literary campaigns, ideas, creations of contemporary Chinese literature and deeply experience contemporary Chinese literature ideology and culture.
Development and Design of Teaching Plan : Grasp the technique of designing teaching plan, to sufficiently and completely teach the content during the lesson.
